Stranded Algerians leave Madinah as flights resume

MADINAH: Air Algerie resumed flights from Prince Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz Airport in Madinah on Friday evening putting an end to the suffering of hundreds of Algerian pilgrims who were left stranded in the city.
Five Air Algerie flights with pilgrims on board left the airport on Saturday. Pilgrims were relieved that the airline had resumed flights.
The problem started after the airline failed to secure flights from Madinah airport as a result of which 10 Air Algerie flights were delayed.
This situation led to angry scenes, especially since no solution to the problem seemed to be forthcoming. As a result, the Ministry of Haj intensified communications with officials in Algeria to resolve the matter.
A Ministry of Haj official in Madinah said the situation was closely being followed and that the minister of Haj is being updated on the matter daily.
An emergency meeting was held between the airport’s manager, the head of the Madinah branch of the Ministry of Haj and the manager of Air Algerie to resolve the matter and reschedule canceled flights.
