Shahid Kapoor receives multiple offers to attend World Dance Day events

Shahid Kapoor is known for his exceptional dancing skills. And with World Dance Day (April 29) around the corner, several NGOs and dance choreographers are interested in getting him to attend their events that celebrate dance to talk about his passion for it and maybe even shake a leg. A source says, "Shahid has got multiple offers to be part of dance dos that commemorate World Dance Day. Choreographers Shiamak Davar and Bosco are organising two separate events in the city while a couple of NGOs too want him to attend their functions and spend time with underprivileged kids. He hasn't decided which one he will attend, but is leaning towards an NGO."
Shahid is currently shooting for Rambo Rajkumar in Wai and has just wrapped up Phata Poster Nikla Hero. The source adds, "His schedule is packed, yet he has decided to take a day off to celebrate World Dance Day. He is passionate about dancing and does not want to miss this occasion. He wants to reach out to students of dance and share his knowledge and experience. However, he is humbled and touched by so many requests pouring in."
When contacted, Shahid's spokesperson confirms the report and says, "Shahid has been getting a lot of requests from various NGOs and dance choreographers, but he is yet to take a final call."

I lost my best friend: MS Viswanathan

Reacting to the demise of 91-year-old veteran composer T K Ramamurthy (TKR), musician M S Viswanathan (MSV) says he has lost his best friend. Ramamurthy passed away Wednesday at his residence here after brief illness.

"I feel like I have lost my best friend with whom I had shared so many great memories over the years. Even after we parted ways in the 1960s, we remained friends at heart. I will certainly feel his loss," said Viswanathan.

Popularly known as Vishwanathan-Ramamurthy duo, they composed music for hundreds of Tamil films in over a decade and a half. "I suggested that we should work together as a team. Initially, he was not game for it, but I convinced him with great difficulty. We had great memories of working together and when we faced differences, we amicably parted ways," he said.

"We may have stopped working together, but we were friends at heart and, therefore, we buried all the differences and worked together again. Even though he only used to play the violin, he was a highly proficient musician," he said.

"He would supervise most of my compositions. He would also conduct most of the recordings at the studio. Since he hailed from a family of musicians, his suggestions were always respected and taken seriously," he added.

Vishwanathan-Ramamurthy composed chartbusters for films such as Panam, Padmini, Raththa Kaneer, Pasa Valai, Sugam Enge and Sorga Vaasal. They spilt in 1965 after the release of the Tamil film 'Aayirathil Oruvan'.

In 1995, they reunited after 30 years to work for Tamil film 'Engirundho Vanthan'. "Actor N S Krishnan introduced us as a team in our debut film 'Panam'. He suggested that since TKR was senior to me, he would lead me," said MSV.

Commando Vidyut Jamwal to choreograph fights for Bullet Raja

Fresh from the success of Commando the new action-star Vidyut Jamwal will compose his own stunts for Tigmanshu Dhulia's Bullet Raja.
Tigmanshu Dhulia's new project, which satrs Saif Ali Khan and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles, has an official action director Parvez Khan, who has films like Ra.One, Vishwaroop and Agent Vinod to his credit.
Vidyut who steps into a doughty cop's role that was to be played by Irrfan Khan would be making a very special appearance in the film. And the action-star will make his appearance as special as possible.
Tigmanshu Dhulia explains, "Vidyut would have two action sequences in Bullet Raja and he'd be composing the stunts. We have the amazing Parvez Bhai composing all the stunts for the film's leading man Saif Ali Khan. But Vidyut knows his body and mind better than anyone else. He has been training in the martial arts since the age of 12. Who better to know how his character would deal with the combative crisis in the plot?"
Vidyut Jamwal's first fight would show him taking on dacoits in the Chambal Valley. "Vidyut Jamwal enters the story at mid-point right after intermission. His character of the cop takes on the Chambal dacoits. The second fight sequence would be staged in the city of Lucknow. They'd be antithetical in ambience mood and impact. I leave it to Vidyut to design and execute these fights in such a way that he makes optimum impact," says Tigmanshu Dhulia who is currently shooting in Etawah city of Uttar Pradesh for Bullet Raja.
"I am having great fun shooting the film. I suspect the audience would enjoy themselves just as much," says Tigmanshu Dhulia.

Arjun Rampal turns DJ

Actor Arjun Rampal is all set to turn disc jockey at his night club 'Lap' in New Delhi.
Arjun Rampal, 40, Who will be seen in Prakash Jha's Satyagraha along with Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor and Ajay Devgn, is apprehensive about his stint as DJ.
"Working on my set as I prepare to spin tomorrow at Lap. Looking forward to a crazy night. Nervous and excited. Yes, I love electronic music. I do Dj for fun tomorrow, I am spinning in Delhi and yes everyone is invited. No members policy for tomorrow," Rampal posted on Twitter.
The Rajneeti star's nightclub, Lap, has hosted many international performances in the past including pop sensation Lady Gaga and DJ Edward Maya.
Arjun Rampal was last seen in Sudhir Mishra's Inkaar opposite Chitrangada Singh.

Five Experimental films which clicked in 2012 - Exclusive

Apart from the most big-budget films that have set the cash registers ringing at the Box-Office in 2012, here are few of the experimental films that amazed the Tollywood audiences sustaining at the Box-Office. While Rajamouli’s Eega won most praises also earning the status of one of the biggest earners of the year, Siddharth’s Love Failure, Ravi Babu’s Avunu, S.P Balasubrahmanyam starrer Midhunam bagged critical-acclaims.

"Eega": Who would've possibly imagined that filmmaker S.S Rajamouli can strike gold at the box office with a computer generated housefly? Undoubtedly, one of most successful films of 2012, "Eega" was an effort worth appreciation. The film may have had a wafer-thin story line, but thanks to breathtaking visual effects and impeccable acting by the lead actors, it is very unlikely to ignore it. It is the only film of 2012, which managed to be successful in its Malayalam and Hindi dubbed versions too.

"Ee Rojullo": Neither does this film boast of a star actor nor an item song. Yet, it was highly successful and well-received at the box office. The hero doesn't have a grand entry, nor does he have a glamorous heroine. "Ee Rojullo" is most probably the first film in Telugu to taste success solely with newcomers. Targeted at young adults, with romance and comedy as its ingredients, this film stands testimony to the potential of new age filmmakers. When most mega budget films are finding it difficult to even sustain for 50 days at the ticket window, this film managed to run for 175 days.

"Love Failure": A Tamil-Telugu bilingual, "Love Failure" by debutant Balaji Mohan, based on his eponymous short film, is an impressive tale of love and forgiveness. Revolving around characters in love, the film dives into the psyche, trying to bring forth the expectations of people in a relationship. Aptly performed by Siddharth and Amala Paul, this love story worked mostly because of its sensible screenplay and unusual-yet-amusing characterisation. Music by S.S Thaman and cinematography by Nirav Shah were the perfect icing on the cake.

"Avunu": Known for his offbeat films such as "Anasuya" and "Nuvvila", "Avunu" by Ravi Babu, is a taut horror-thriller that succeeds in implanting fear in the psyche of the audience without exploiting the characters in the film. Revolving around the lead character Mohini, played by Poorna, the story is about the realisation of an unknown presence in Mohini's apartment that indulges in voyeuristic pleasure. Shot under a budget of Rs.50 lakh, this film tasted success at the box office, and it is likely to be remade in Hindi soon. With no songs to entertain, it was very important for the film to keep the audience engaged and thanks to Ravi Babu, it succeeded.

"Midhunam": Based on the Telugu novel of the same name, "Midhunam", revolves around two characters played by S.P Balasubrahmanyam and Lakshmi Narayan. The story revolves around elderly couple, Appa Das and Butchi, who instead of waiting to hear from their children abroad, spend life to the fullest in the company of each other. An ode to marriage, this film harps on the importance of enjoying life's smallest triumphs with one's significant other. This film is proof to the fun and frolic married couple above 60 indulge in. Performances by S.P.B and Lakshmi were outstanding, while Tanikella Bharani's direction hits the right chord.

Allu hates work: Preview of 'Julayi'

'Julayi' comes with the promise of offering both style and humour in one film. Thus, you can be assured for loads of fun from this film. Besides the presence of Stylish Star and Humour Raja (director Trivikram Srinivas), there is the sizzling Illeana, who is nimble-footed when it comes to scorching us under the spell of her oomph.

This film has another high- Devi Sri Prasad's music. The makers have guarded against letting out the plot. However, Arjun's character does look interesting. He hates to work for the simple reason because a worker won't be able to get the mazaa out of life. His life takes a curious turn in due course.

At least two important characters may be the ones causing changes in his life. Rajendra Prasad and Sonu Sood are playing key roles. Brahmanandam, Tanikella Bharani, MS Narayana, Dharmavarapu, Brahmaji and Rao Ramesh are playing other important roles. Despite a flop like 'Khaleja', expectations from Trivikram Srinivas are high for obvious reasons. It is learnt that the film has interesting scenes between Illeana and Brahmanandam. Even Arjun's comedy and characterization may surprise us. "The pairing of Arjun and Illeana is a feast to watch. Trivikram's dialogues will be found catchy by everyone", the producer says.

Govinda gets bail in assault case

Govinda was granted bail today by a Mumbai court in a case registered against him for allegedly slapping a person in 2008 on the sets of his film Money Hai to Honey Hai.
Govinda Ahuja alias Govinda appeared for the first time on March 20 before a Magistrate in Borivali, a western suburb of Mumbai. in response to a summons issued against him.
The 48-year-old actor was asked to furnish a personal bond of Rs 15,000 or in lieu thereof pay Rs 10,000 cash. He chose to pay the cash of Rs 10,000 and secured bail.
The court had issued summons to Govinda on September 17 last year on a complaint filed by Santosh Rai who alleged that he was slapped by the actor in 2008 following an altercation over a trivial issue.
However, the actor failed to appear on the appointed date and the court issued a warning to him to come personally on the next occasion or else it would issue non-bailable warrant against him.

The court also asked Govinda to pay Rs 1,000 as costs for not appearing in person, according to Bipin Gupta, advocate for the complainant.
He appeared today to avoid issuance of the non-bailable warrant and sought bail.

Acting was never on my agenda: Nargis Fakhri

She was happy walking international runways as a model when 'Rockstar' happened. Nargis Fakhri, who played the female lead opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the Imtiaz Ali directed film, says she never wanted to become an actress.
Born to a Czech mother and a Pakistani father, Nargis made a much-hyped debut at the age of 32 with the film. The model-turned-actress says she has no regrets entering Bollywood late in her career as acting was never on her agenda.
"Acting was never on the agenda, so I think 'Rockstar' happened at the right time. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for 'Rockstar'. I have been modeling since I was 16. I am very new to the film industry and while I thoroughly enjoy my new job, there is still a lot for me to learn," said Nargis.
Even though her performance as Heer Kaul in 'Rockstar' met with criticism, the newbie actress remains undeterred, saying the comments have helped her overcome flaws.
"I deal with the criticism the same way I deal with the praise. I am a very positive person and when people criticize it helps me overcome my flaws. I am very new to this industry so I take it as an experience and feel motivated to do better," she said.
'Rockstar' came out in November 2011 and Nargis is yet to sign another film, saying that she is waiting for the right project.
"After being a part of a film like 'Rockstar', my next project has to be as good or better. I have read some great scripts and I think we will announce something soon. I was in no hurry to sign something. I wanted to wait for something exciting, and if that meant waiting for a while, then so be it," she said. 
Nargis was not an active part of promotions of 'Rockstar' and even after the release she didn't expose herself to the media hype. The actress says she stayed away from the limelight to guard her personal life.
"I don't think I am an introvert at all. But I am guarded about my personal life and I think that's important when you work in this industry."
Despite being exposed to the world of show business as a model, Nargis says she was not prepared for the kind of attention she got post the film's release.
"Nothing can prepare you for this. I still get very nervous when I have to face a lot of people. It freaks me out to see so many people in front of me, calling out my name," she said.
And she is also aware of the pressure that comes alongwith the attention.
"It is a big achievement to be recognized in the Indian film fraternity as it has such great talents. But there is also a lot of responsibility that comes along, a lot of pressure about what your next project is, how you look, speak, act etc," Nargis said.

Shootout at Wadala director booked for forgery

A week after Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan's arrest for assaulting an NRI businessman, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has found himself on the wrong side of the law with city police booking him for alleged misuse of the name of Mumbai Police Commissioner's office for the launch of a film.
According to police, Gupta and queen of TV soaps Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures allegedly forged letterhead of the city police commissioner to send invitations for the press conference of the upcoming flick "Shootout at Wadala" held yesterday at Mehboob Studios.

"Sanjay Gupta, Balaji Motion Pictures (Producer) and Glamsham.com (Bollywood movie portal) have been booked for cheating and forgery as they misused the name of the office of the Mumbai Police Commissioner by using the rubber stamp of police to promote their film," Nandkumar Mhetar, Senior Inspector at Versova Police station, said.

The invite also said the police chief would be present at the event and brief the media on the current status of crime in the city, Mhetar added.

The accused were booked under sections 417 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 Forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), 474 (Having possession of document described in Section 466 or 467, knowing it to be forged and intending to use it as genuine) of the IPC and 68 of the IT Act, the officer said, adding that arrests in the case could be made.

The "Dus Kahaniyan" and "Shootout at Lokhandwala" producer said a "misunderstanding" had resulted in the police action as the invite itself was "mock".

"It is a bit of a misunderstanding but we will clear it, not an issue," he said on coming to know of the case.

"If we look at it then you would know that nowhere the word Mumbai is mentioned. The emblem is mock....We know what we are doing. Also, there is a disclaimer behind the invite and it is an invite from a fictional office..We all know it is not Bombay Police, it is Mumbai police today," he said.

Sources in the police department said the arrests would be made only after a thorough investigation. But, if arrested, the accused would have to seek bail from court as the sections applied against are non-bailable, they said.

The FIR was registered at Versova police station as Gupta's office falls within its jurisdiction, though the event was organised at suburban Bandra, the officer said.

The subject of the controversial invite is "Briefing on the current crime scenario in Bombay".

"This is to inform you that the Commissioner of Police requests your presence on the 29th of the February at 3.15 pm on stage No 2 of Mehboob Studio to address the sudden and dangerous rise of organised crime in the city," the invitation reads.

The invite further states, "The Commissioner would like to issue a statement regarding how the police force plans to respond. Experts from White Feather Films and Balaji Motion Pictures will present their statements on the shootout at Wadala. Your presence is a must."

It concludes with "Signed under hand and seal on this 27th day of February 1981 (sic)".

The invite had the "Bombay Police" emblem and signature of one Parull Gossain from "The Commissioner's office, Bandra Police station, Krishna Chandra Marg, Bandra (West), Bombay 400050."

"Shootout at Wadala", a sequel to Gupta's 2007 film "Shootout at Lokhandwala" is based on the first-ever registered encounter by Mumbai police of gangster Manya Surve, who was shot dead at suburban Wadala in the 1990s.

The film, directed by Gupta and starring John Abraham, Kangana Ranaut, Anil Kapoor, Sonu Sood and Manoj Bajpayee, is slated to release on Decmber 7 this year.
