Sarabai Bakshi counted her age on her fingers and said "104" to the reporters hovering around her bed.

Though she looked frail, Sarabai has been through two breast cancer surgeries at the age of 103 and this time a rather difficult bone operation for multiple fractures in her thigh bone.

Sushila Jain, her 75 year old niece, the only living kin, recounted what happened.

"On the night of January 8 she slipped in bathroom. She was holding the tap but her hand slipped," said Sushila Jain.

Consequently her thigh had broken in more than four pieces and a team of doctors at the Bombay Hospital had to reconstruct her bones using screws and locking plates.

However, that is not all that was wrong with Sarabai. "Because of her age her bones are weak, osteoporotic. She has asthma because of which her lungs are bad any operation causes lot of strain on the body, on the lungs on the heart, therefore we had to look after that first when are stabilized she had anemia also, so for that we had to do blood transmission to make the blood level proper," said Dr Jhunjhunwala.

Sarabai was still in pain and her leg swollen. But doctors assure that the former school teacher will be back on her feet within a month.
