Shiv Sena begins campaign for ban on burqa

Shiv Sena
Mumbai, Oct 19: Making use of the recent incident in which a two-month-old baby was kidnapped by an unidentified woman in burqa, Shiv Sena has begun the campaign for a ban on burqa.

"If the burqa is used to steal children, then we demand that it be banned as per law," an editorial in the party mouthpiece Saamana said on Tuesday, Oct 19.

The call for ban on the full-body veil that Muslim women are required to wear, comes amid several European countries' campaign to achieve the same over security concerns.

Appreciating France over its decision to ban the burqa, the editorial hailed the French President for a 'revolutionary step'.

"When burqa was banned in Turkey by Kemal Pasha, Islam did not come in between. Why only is it so in India?" Saamna questioned.

Shiv Sena under the leadership of Bal Thackeray uses Marathi manoos sentiment to run the show. The latest demand comes in response to the kidnapping that took place at a civic-run hospital in suburban Santacruz on Oct 15.
