AP CM meets Sonia, discusses state issues

Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha on Saturday met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and is understood to have discussed the current political situation in the state in the wake of the Telangana issue assuming centre-stage. 

This is the first visit of Rajanarasimha to Delhi after he was appointed as Deputy Chief Minister on 10th June.

During his meeting with Gandhi, the Deputy Chief Minister, who belongs to the Telangana region, discussed state and party issues.

"I met her for the first time after being appointed as Deputy Chief Minister. It was a courtesy call. I thanked her for the appointment," he told reporters after the meeting.

He said he discussed issues related to the party and Andhra Pradesh with the Congress chief.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes in the backdrop of party MP and MLAs from the Telangana region raking up the statehood issue with the party High Command.

They have asked the High Command to take a positive decision on the demand for a separate state at the earliest.
