Nov. 10: To curb Naxalite activities, a number of changes have been made in postings of senior police officers.
Mr A. Ravishankar, who is an expert in tackling Maoist insurgency, has been posted as deputy inspector general of police, Karimnagar range, to contain the surge in Naxal activities in North Telangana.
Mr Ravishankar, who belongs to the 1994 batch of the IPS, was superintendent of police in the Special Intelligence Branch in the Naxal- hit districts of Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Guntur.
His last posting was as additional director in the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Five other IPS officers were also transferred on Tuesday.
Karimnagar range DIG, Mr N. Chandramouli, has been transferred and posted as marine police DIG. Mr K. Srinivasa Reddy, who was with the marine police has been made additional director, Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Mr N. Balasubrahmanyam, DIG, vigilance and enforcement, is now DIG (intelligence).
Mr P.S.R. Anjaneyulu was posted from intelligence to Andhra Pradesh Special Police battalions to fill an existing vacancy.
Mr Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, DIG, CID has been posted to Eluru range.
The new director general of police, Mr R.R. Girish Kumar, is keen to appoint officers who are experts in dealing with Naxal insurgency to North
Telangana to prevent a resurgence of the Naxals there and to control their activities along the Andhra-Orissa border.
Sixteen such experts have already been appointed as deputy superintendents of police in North Telangna.
The state police headquarters is taking willing letters from the DSPs and additional superintendents of police who have experience in dealing with left wing extremism.
Since there is a bar on transfer of police officials by the Supreme Court which is looking into police reforms, the state police have decided to take willing letters.
