In the wee hours of Tuesday night the Gandhidham Bangalore Express derailed at Dombivli near Mumbai. Four of the total 11 coaches which derailed have been heavily damaged.
12 passengers were reportedly injured in the incident, however no deaths were reported. Seven of the 12 are seriously injured and have been rushed to a hospital. Rescue operations are still on and all of the passengers have been sifted to an emergency train which arrived at the accident site.
The train was on its way from Ahmedabad to Bangalore when the accident took place. "In a matter of few seconds the boogie over-turned," recalls a passenger. "The response has been good. Even though it was really late in the night, the officials and medical assistance reached in half an hour time. There have been minor injuries," says another passenger.
Reportedly, a resident at Dombivli had sent an SMS alert to the Railway control room on the deteriorating railway tracks at 2330 hrs IST. The said SMS was sent more than an hour before the accident took place.
