MAHABUBNAGAR: A group of Srisailam project oustees created flutter at the Collectorate here on Monday threatening to jump to death from the terrace of the building. The police acted tactfully, overpowered and brought them down. Later, they were arrested.
According to reports, the oustees hailing from various villages submerged in the back waters of Srisailam project gathered at the Collectorate demanding jobs as promised under G.O. No 98. The protesters identified as Md. Shamsher, L. Sekhar Reddy, A. Srinivasa Reddy, D. Timma Reddy, Md. Jahir, Sheik Ali and others said out of the list of 105 members, only 30 were given jobs while the rest were rejected on various flimsy grounds. They said the trauma of displacement by the project was suffered by everybody but the government gave jobs to only a few as an eye wash.
The protesters reached the terrace of the Collectorate building and threatened to jump to death if no assurance was given by officials. The police reached the place and overpowered them. Later, they were arrested by the police.
