Rao was scheduled sit on a fast unto death for demanding for creation of a separate Telangana state.
According to police, Rao was first taken to Warangal, but later was shifted to Khammam for security reasons.
TRS ideologue Jayashankar, legislative party leader E Rajender and Rao’s son Tarakarama Rao were also arrested.
Earlier in the day, police arrested hundreds of TRS activists from different parts of Telangana region on their way to Siddipet.
The incidents of stone throwing, and damaging public property have been reporting from Karimnagar, Warangal, Medak and other parts of Telangana region.
Meanwhile, the state government has deployed the Rapid Action Force (RAF), Greyhounds in the ten districts of Telangana region to prevent any further untoward incidents.
In Hyderabad, a group of TRS activists damaged the statue of former Chief Minister K. Brahmanand Reddy, who is blamed by Telangana protagonists for suppressing the violent Telangana movement in 1969. (ANI)
