New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi today told party MPs from the Telangana region in Andhra Pradesh to have "patience" on the separate statehood demand as she is seized of the matter.
She made the remarks to a group of MPs from the state who called on her to greet on her 64th birthday here.
The MPs also told her that the people of Telangana are "hoping that the Congress President will come to their rescue and take steps for the creation of Telangana."
"We told her about the Telangana demand. She asked us to be patient and that she is aware of the issue completely and will take a decision," Malkajgiri MP Sathyanarayana Sarvey told news agency.
Besides him, several MPs, including Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar was also present during the meeting.
Sarvey said the MPs also apprised the Congress President about the situation in the state and also the protests demanding a separate Telangana state.
"Madam asked us to be patient. We are hopeful that the High Command will take a decision soon," he said.
