New Delhi: The death of an employee working as a driver for industrialist Anil Nanda, a week after he was set on fire, has raised some serious questions on the manner in which Delhi Police have handled the case.
Janeshwar Sharma, an ex-service man, was hospitalised with serious burn injuries on June 9. However, for over a week, nobody from the police department approached Sharma to record his statement. In fact, it is now learnt that the city police failed to record the victim's statement despite directions from the area Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
As far as the condition of the victim was concerned, the FIR lodged with the police states that Janeshwar was admitted to Apollo Hospital at 11.15 am and at 1.40 pm Dr Mahesh Kaitu declared him fit for statement. Yet his statement was not recorded by the police.
Moreover, Delhi Police are yet to consider the victim's request for a murder investigation. In an on-camera statement given to IBN7, Sharma alleges that some unidentified persons poured fuel on him and set him on fire.
It is learnt that other employees of the Nanda residence took him to the hospital when they saw him in flames.
Then, why are the police not questioning the employees?
The FIR, registered at the New Friends Colony police station, mentions that Janeshwar had told the police he had been asked to tail Nanda's business partner Vijay Sinha. The police are yet to question the industrialist and the business associate over that allegation?
Brother appeals for justice
Meanwhile, angry with the police's inaction, Janeshwar's brother Yogesh is appealing for death for those involved in the murder.
"I appeal for death for all those who are behind the death of my brother. Since 9th, only twice the police have come to us. We are sure that political pressure and money power are suppressing the case," Yogesh told CNN-IBN.
Yogesh also suspects the role of the police in his brother's death.
"I will fight unto death to get justice. Even if I have to go to the High Court or the Supreme Court, I will do that and will not rest until justice is done," adds Yogesh.
