Stephen Fry steals show from Windows

Well done to Microsoft for saving the best for last at the London launch of its new mobile phone operating system, Windows Phone 7.
After the usual blizzard of corporate executives, glitzy PowerPoint slides and overly enthusiastic software engineers, onto the stage at the ICA steps none other than notorious Apple fanboy and previous scourge of Microsoft–U.K. National Treasure Stephen Fry.
"I never thought the day would come," gushed Mr. Fry, "that I would stand on a stage and praise Microsoft for doing something they could be proud of."
Keen to make it clear that he wasn't paid for his repentant-sinner appearance, Mr. Fry enthused about the phone and its slick design. He even dared to mention Apple's iPhone, which had remained nameless throughout the previous hour.
But showing why you should never appear on stage with children, animals, and National Treasures, Mr. Fry couldn't resist proving his independence. At one point comparing Microsoft unflatteringly to football squad Leeds United, he went on to praise Microsoft's recent efforts elsewhere, including its new PC operating system, Windows 7 which replaced the ugly unloved step-daughter of the Microsoft family, Vista.
"There is a lot that is good," said Mr. Fry. "The Xbox is proving a huge success. Windows 7 is better than Vista. "Mind you," he quipped, "there is [poop] on my shoe that is better than Vista."
The sharp intake from the U.K. Microsoft executives was almost palpable.
