With the Trinamool Congress headed for victory in the West Bengal civic polls ahead of next year's crucial assembly polls, party chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said she had full faith in the people of the state. | |
Before leaving for Kolkata, where the party swept a majority of the seats in the polls held on Sunday, Banerjee said it was too early to reach any conclusion about the results. "I have full faith in people. It's too early to come to any conclusion," Banerjee, also the Railway Minister, told a television channel. More than 70 percent of voters had exercised their franchise in the polls held to 81 municipal corporations, including the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC). The elections were held two days after the Gyaneshwari Express rail disaster claimed 148 lives in West Midnapore district. The Trinamool Congress and the Congress had failed to clinch a seat-sharing deal. |
