Australian weightlifters Vivian Lee and Erika Yamasaki missed out on claiming the country's first medal at the Games, finishing out of the medals.
Nigeria's 17-year-old weightlifter Augustina Nwaokolo won the first gold of the Delhi Commonwealth Games on Monday when she claimed the women's 48kg title.
Nwaokolo claimed the first gold medal on offer in Delhi in the women's 48-kilogram event, which ranks competitors on the total weight of their best lifts in the snatch and the clean and jerk.
The vocal Indian crowd at the I.G. Sports Complex had to settle for second and third places.
The 18-year-old also beat the previous Games records for the snatch and clean and jerk.
India's Soniya Chanu and Sandhya Atom finished in second and third spots, with totals of 167kg and 165kg respectively.
Lee came in fifth spot, lifting a total of 160kg, while Yamasaki, who claimed a bronze at the Melbourne Games, failed to finish after striking out three times in a row on 88kg in the clean and jerk.
