Britain's Prince Charles met with Indian President Pratibha Patil for informal talks Saturday, a day before the two are to jointly inaugurate the Commonwealth Games, ending a protocol tussle.
Charles and Patil, accompanied by their spouses, later strolled through the Mogul-style gardens of the pink sandstone presidential palace in the Indian capital.
With Queen Elizabeth II deciding not to attend the sporting event for the 71 countries and territories of the Commonwealth, the prince is to speak on his mother's behalf at Sunday's opening ceremony. However, many Indians felt Patil should be the one to officially inaugurate the games.
The prince's office, Clarence House, said in a statement that "There is no row."
Patil's office said it did not wish to comment.
The situation was resolved by the games organizing committee, which decided that the two would essentially share the honor.
Earlier Saturday, Charles met with prominent business leaders to promote business and trade ties.
