CBI raids: DMK plans to break Congress ties

KanimozhiChennai, Dec 16: After the massive raids by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the 2G spectrum scam, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), a key ally of UPA government, is planning to break the Congress ties.

Sources reported that DMK leaders are not happy with the raids conducted by CBI on Wednesday, Dec 15. CBI officials raided 'Tamil Maiyam', a NGO patronised by Rajya Sabha MP and Chief Minister Karunanidhi's daughter, Kanimozhi. Following the raids, media reported alleged links of Kanimozhi to the 2G spectrum scam.

CBI also raided another 26 places in Chennai and seven places in New Delhi including corporate lobbyist Nira Radia's residence and offices. Later on the day, CBI questioned Radia over the allegations of her links to the 2G scam.

Meanwhile, Congress started the damage control measures to keep ties with DMK. Congress leaders brushed out the rumors of break-up with DMK.

"We trust our ally and trust is always mutual. Let the inquiries be over. I believe, everyone was raising questions (on the impartiality of the probe) and that is being addressed," Congress General Secretary Janardhan Dwivedi said.

Sources reported that DMK will hold a emergency meeting to discuss the situation as the party goes to face Assembly elections in early 2011.
