Varsity offers course for those seeking employment with BPO industry

The Delhi University has come up with yet another add-on course to enhance the employability of the students. The course that has been designed by NASSCOM will help hone the skills of students who want to take up employment with the BPO industry. The new programme will be offered as an 'add-on' course for undergraduate students across the University.
The Global Business Foundation course will be available to all final year students across streams on first -come-first-serve basis. The course, covering five modules - Industry Awareness, Business Communication Skills, Customer Management Skills, PC and Data Skills and Campus to Corporate, will help students acquire basic foundation skills.

Prof. Deepak Pental, vice-chancellor, Delhi University, said this was a landmark event as for the first time the University and NASSCOM were coming together to address the issue of employability. "The courses would help the students specialise in domain skills. Negotiations for courses like Finance and Accounting are also in the pipeline."

Students who apply will first have to go through a test that will help them assess their current skill levels. Once participating students have completed the training module they will be required to take the final test-NAC (NASSCOM Assessment of Competence), which will be a scorecard of their skills and competencies.
NASSCOM, President, Som Mittal said, "IT companies are viewing the labour markets more through a global lens and have begun to realise that outsourcing decisions are not only being driven by cost-cutting but by talent shortages too.

The skills acquired through this course will not only help students prepare themselves for the industry but also orient them towards lifelong learning."

Currently only 25 per cent of our engineering graduates and 10-15 percent of our other graduates are directly employable by the industry.

"This is a huge opportunity for us to enhance our skills and become industry-ready. Most of the students who are now being placed are from top notch colleges. This course would give an opportunity to students from other colleges also," said Raj Sekhar, a second year student of Moti Lal Nehru College.
