With a view to discourage consumption of tobacco, Madhya Pradesh government has banned organisers of Navratri festival from accepting advertisements of tobacco products, a press release issued here said.
District collectors have been asked to inform the organisers of the forthcoming nine-day festival that they should not display advertisements of tobacco products like Pan Masala or accept sponsorship from tobacco companies, commissioner, health, JN Kansotia said.
Guidelines released by the government said that the organisers should not allow smoking within the pandals where the festivities are conducted and display boards to this effect should be installed. Those found defying the ban would be slapped a fine of Rs 200.
As per guidelines, if the organisers do not take action against those breaking the rules, the district administration would be free to fine the organisers.
Officers of the district administration would inspect the premises to ensure the guidelines are followed, the press note said.
