Congress President Sonia Gandhi slammed Bahartiya Janta Party (BJP) over corruption issues on Monday.
Addressing Congress Parliamentary Party meet on the last day of winter session of Parliament, Gandhi said that BJP should be the last party to talk about the corruption.
Attacking BJP-led Opposition for disrupting Parliament proceedings, UPA chairperson said, "There is a corrupt government in Karnataka." She also referred Bangaru Laxman episode during the NDA regime.
Taking a swipe at the BJP, the Congress chief said, "The BJP should look at its own track record. The main opposition party should not denigrate Parliament."
Sonia said that the investigation is on into the 2G Spectrum scam but Opposition is undermining the institutions. "There is no need of JPC into the 2G spectrum scam. Congress is committed to fight graft."
Sonia Gandhi congratulated the government for achieving 8.9 percent growth.
Later, briefing the reporters, party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said that the Congress President maintained that it is a painful truth that corruption exists, and that it should be looked into how the Government and the political parties take action in the matter after cases have surfaced.
The meeting was called in the wake the deadlock in Parliament during the winter session over the opposition’s demand of JPC probe in 2G Spectrum allotment scam.
The party will firm up its plan of action to take on the opposition at the party's plenary which will be held here from Dec 18.
The Congress is facing internal troubles in Andhra Pradesh following the resignation of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's son Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, who has decided to float his party.
The report of committee on a separate Telangana is also expected this month.
Congress sources said the plenary will focus on the party's preparations for next year's assembly elections in major states including Kerala, West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu.
