New Delhi, Feb 9 : Overseas Indian Affairs Minister Vayalar Ravi, who had met with a road accident on February 4 at Monrovia in Liberia, will be brought back by a special aircraft with the required medical support on board and was expected to reach Chennai at midnight tomorrow from Abidjan.
Mr Ravi, after initial treatment at the John F Kennedy Hospital, was air-lifted to Abidjan in Ivory Cost for further treatment at PISAM Hospital. The Government of Liberia, on the request of the Consul General of India in Liberia arranged to air-lift the Minister from Monrovia to Abidjan.
Mr Ravi, who had a miraculous escape, however, sustained no major injury. His health was stable and was recovering well, the Ministry said here.
He has expressed his gratitude to the Indian community and other people who had assisted in his recovery.
He thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well as Defence Minister A K Anthony for making arrangements for his return by a special aircraft.
He also thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her good wishes.
