Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi is to stand trial for allegedly paying a 17-year-old girl for sex.
Melbourne based Democratic Party of Italy MP says the Prime Minister should step aside while he fights the charges. "We obvioiusly believe that mr Berl should simply step aside," says Marco Ferdi.
"Not necessarily resign but at least step aside until the court case is over."
Prime Minister Berlusconi is a media mogul and billionaire.
Marco Fedi says having Berlusconi as prime minister of Italy is like Australia electing Rupert Murdoch to the same position.
Marco Fedi spoke to Jon Faine on 774 ABC Melbourne Mornings.
