Dying mother of murdered teen pleads for help

THE dying mother of murdered teenager Fiona Burns is pleading for information to solve the 20-year-old case before cancer claims her life.
''Both myself and Fiona's father have cancer and we want this dealt with before our time is up,'' Linda Miaris said. ''Somebody has to pay.''

Victoria Police received a call last week about the double homicide of John Lee and Fiona and are asking for the caller to make contact again.
Homicide squad Detective Inspector John Potter yesterday said he believed the caller could provide details to solve the case.
Fiona, 15, and John, 14, were murdered and their bodies discovered on October 18, 1990, at a truck stop 1.6 kilometres from the South Australian border.
Detectives confirmed the teenagers were hitchhiking between Adelaide and Melbourne along the Western Highway between October 9 and 11.
The caller provided details about a car that detectives now believe was involved in the murder.
''It is quite possible they were picked up by a person or persons and murdered as a result,'' Inspector Potter said.
A $100,000 reward remains on offer for anyone who can provide information that leads to a conviction.
Inspector Potter also said immunity could be offered by the Office of Public Prosecutions to any person who assists them.
Ms Miaris said she was glad it had reached this point because it was the closest the detectives had been in 20 years.
''To the caller and anyone with information, please call,'' she said.
Fiona's parents separated some years ago and have not been in contact.
''He must be feeling as bad as I am … it is getting urgent for the both of us,'' Ms Miaris said.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
