This will provide developers with more choice, especially open source developers using Windows Azure, a cloud computing platform, a company release here said.
Multinational technology firm Microsoft India today announced the launch of a new set of developer tools and software development kits for PHP developers building applications for Windows Azure.
“We are working to give open source developers more access to our platforms. One example of this is our support for an open and interoperable cloud, which we believe is critical for businesses, governments and organisations to take full advantage of cloud-enabled innovations”, Microsoft Interoperability Strategy Team Principal Architect Vijay Rajagopalan said.
“The new software development kits and tools are an important step towards ensuring an open cloud that in turn brings greater flexibility to our partners and customers,” he said.
The Azure Services Platform is an Internet-scale cloud service, hosted on Microsoft data centres, that provides an operating system and a set of developer services that can be used individually or together, he said.
The Windows Azure platform allows developers to use multiples languages (NET, PHP, Ruby, Python or Java) and provides development tools to build applications which run on any of the Windows Azure platforms or other cloud platforms, he said.
Microsoft Corporation India, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Microsoft Corporation USA, currently has presence in 13 cities in the country, the release said.
