WYRA (Khammam): A ninth class student committed suicide unable to tolerate harassment from a teacher. The accused teacher, a vidya volunteer in Garikapadu zilla parishad high school, has been pestering her to marry him.
Fourteen-year-old Prasanthi hanged herself to the ceiling fan in her house at Lingannapalem on Monday when her parents were away. The girl, who was a student at the ZP high school in Wyra mandal, had been harassed by the accused, Karunakar, for the last few months.
"After school hours, he used to follow her and pester her to love him and marry him. The poor girl could not take this harassment any more. Hence, she took the extreme action," an angry relative said.
Meanwhile, the parents have approached the police to punish Karunakar strictly. Police have registered a case and launched a hunt for the accused.
