Enraged over former RSS chief KS Sudarshan's controversial remarks against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, the Punjab unit of Congress today threatened to hold demonstrations across the state.
Newly elected PCC chief Amarinder Singh strongly condemned Sudarshan's remarks and announced holding protests at district and block levels against RSS.
Singh, a former chief minister, who took over as the head of the party's state unit at a function, said, "Such statements (against Sonia) should not come from a person who had been head of an organisation... there is law in the country... such irresponsible statements should be condemned."
Singh also urged partymen to work together and oust the Akali regime in the 2012 assembly polls.
"It is the duty of each Congress worker to make the people aware of the misrule and deteriorating fiscal health of Punjab during Akali regime," he said.
There are over 40 lakh unemployed youth in Punjab and the Badal government was not taking any measures to generate employment, Singh alleged, adding, the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated rapidly.
Leader of the opposition in Punjab assembly Rajinder Kaur Bhattal sought an apology from Sudarshan and the BJP for the remarks against Sonia.
"It seems Sudarshan has lost his mental balance," she said.
Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari said party men should stage protests at district and block levels in a peaceful manner.
