HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice Nisar Ahmad Kakru and Justice Vilas Afzulpurkar on Thursday stayed the proceedings of the SHRC which ordered payment of compensation to persons who were illegally confined. The SHRC had ordered recovery of that money from salary of the police personnel.
The Bench was passing these orders in a writ petition filed by a circle inspector from Kadapa district Gopalakrishna.
The SHRC passed orders in August declaring that Yeranna and Naganna were illegally confined by police. It ordered a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh each to be paid to the victims and the government was asked to recover the amount from the monthly salary of the police officers found responsible.
The petitioner, however, contended that such orders could not be passed by the SHRC. The Bench granted stay and asked the respondents to file counter affidavits.
‘Odarpu yatra'
The Division Bench ordered notices in a writ petition filed seeking a direction to the State government to regulate the activities in the name of ‘Odarpu yatra' taken up by Congress MP Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The writ petition was filed by Krishna Rao, who said that the yatra was resulting in traffic jams and midnight meetings in villages were causing misery to the people.
He made it clear that he is not against the young MP or his party, but wanted the government to regulate the activities. The Bench ordered notices and asked the officers to respond to the issues raised in the writ petition.
Notices ordered
Justice P.V. Sanjay Kumar ordered notices in a writ petition filed challenging the reservation for ‘in service' candidates while making admissions into super specialty courses in NIMS. The judge was dealing with a case filed by Mamatha Reddy of Warangal.
She said that even after the Medical Council of India prohibited such reservations for in-service candidates in super specialty courses, the NIMS was resorting to this. She said that there was no such reservation in NTR University of Health Sciences and in SVIMS. The case is adjourned to September 8 and the respondent NIMS was asked to file the counter affidavit. The admissions are subject to further orders.
