HYDERABAD: Rich tributes and resolve to continue welfare and development schemes launched by late Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy marked his first death anniversary observed by the government at Ravindra Bharathi here on Thursday.
In the absence of Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, who was indisposed, Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, whom YSR used to refer as ‘Chevella Chellemma' presided. Noting that people were yet to come to terms with the sudden death of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy even after a year, Ms. Sabitha said YSR, through his inspiring leadership and welfare schemes, had become an immortal leader. “We should all rededicate ourselves to achieve his ideals,” she added.
Family member
Speaker N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said YSR not only left a deep influence on those who worked closely with him, but also on lakhs of people who had never met him personally. In his death, they too felt they had lost a family member.
In a tribute that caught the essence of YSR's personality, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy said through his welfare schemes and compassion, YSR had benefited every poor family. He was a leader of great confidence and vision, thanks to his hours of deep research on any subject and he was known for conveying his thoughts with clarity.
YSR had enormous respect for his senior colleague K. Rosaiah and the latter was shouldering the responsibility to continue and complete schemes launched by the late Chief Minister.
Health Minister Danam Nagender, who turned emotional, said Arogyasri conceived by YSR won appreciation even from other States and they would continue all his schemes under Mr. Rosaiah's leadership. Mayor Karthika Reddy, MP Anjan Kumar Yadav and others showered encomiums on the late Chief Minister.
Earlier, the Speaker led several legislators and Ministers in paying floral tributes to YSR in the Assembly lobbies.
