Srikrishna Committee asks Centre for Policy Research (CPR) to study the development of Hyderabad metropolis.

Giving a new twist to the speculation on the future status of Greater Hyderabad in the event of bifurcation of the state,the Srikrishna Committee has asked the Centre for Policy Research (CPR) to study the development of Hyderabad metropolis.

CPR president and chief executive officer (CEO) Pratap Bhanu Mehta and senior fellow Partha Mukhopadyaya have been assigned to conduct the study on the growth of Hyderabad since its formation,Srikrishna Committee member secretary VK Duggal told TOI on phone from New Delhi on Sunday.

He said,the CPR will just profile economic,social and cultural aspects of the city and it has nothing to do with political process. The terms of reference of the two-member group was to study physical growth of the city,demographic profile,economic activity,sociological developments and the culture of the city and it would submit its report by November-end,Duggal said.

Asked about the modus operandi,he said the members will not conduct any field visits.They will meet government officials and the top people from the industry to get the required data.The Srikrishna Committee which had gathered information with regard to the development of Hyderabad has already been supplied to the members.Reports by the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) reports were also being provided to them,he said.

He said the Srikrishna Committee will analyse the CPR report and added that its recommendations were not bearing or binding on the Committee.It will only help to go into the details of development of the city for better understanding in making viable recommendations to the Centre, he said.
The internationally recognised New Delhi headquartered CPR is an independent and non-partisan research institute recognised by the Indian Council For Social Science Research (ICSSR).

Duggal said the sub-committee of experts to study regional imbalances in two crucial sectors power and irrigation headed by Central Water Commission (CWC) former chief engineer AD Mohile and former chief engineer of Central Electricity Authority VB Gupta had already completed field visits and were preparing report based on the information gathered at field-level and government records.He reiterated that the committee will submit its report to the Centre by December 31.
